Enhanced messaging service on new handsets
DATE: 10 February 2009
Sony Ericsson has announced a deal with mobile messaging service provider Fun Text to pre-load the Fun Text application onto one of its new handsets, which 3 is to launch in Q2 this year.
The application will be pre-loaded onto the new C905 Plus, the most advanced Cyber-shot™ phone, retailing on the 3 network in the UK. Fun Text will enable easy access from the handset to online galleries of animation and video content designed for messaging – from ecards to emoticons, from viral videos to virtual gifts. The application also integrates with the address book on the handset.
"Fun Text puts a world of entertaining messaging content at the finger tips of the handset owner," said David Hilton, marketing director at Sony Ericsson. "Now our customers can share rich emotional content directly from their phone."
Fun Text connects content with communication and provides integrated access across clients (Java, Symbian and Brew), as well as WAP and web storefronts. The service connects the handset to managed galleries of online professional content for fun, social and emotional messaging. Fun Text is already provided by operators such as 3, T-Mobile and Sprint and supported by major media companies such as Turner Broadcasting and American Greetings.
"Sony Ericsson is leading the multimedia experience on mobile," said James Pycock, Business Development Director at Fun Text. "With 8.1 megapixels, the C905 already enables the best in user generated content and we are delighted to complement this with the best in professionally generated content."

About Fun Text
Fun Text is a leading content-based mobile messaging service that enables consumers to send and share professionally created multimedia on mobile. Deployed by major operators, such as Sprint, 3 and T-Mobile, the Fun Text service drives triple digit growth in MMS revenues.
It represents a new category of messaging between user-generated photo messaging and SMS where users can include professionally created content within messages to clearly express their emotions. While MMS is generally used to send camera phone pictures and SMS is used regularly for brief, functional statements, Fun Text creates a new, high-traffic, emotional communication medium as an alternative to both.
The mass-market messaging service combines the richness of MMS with the ease of use of SMS. Available as a handset application, it accesses an online content store and integrates with the address book on handsets from Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung, Motorola and other major manufacturers. Backed by global media companies such as Turner Broadcasting and American Greetings, Fun Text was also recently shortlisted as a finalist for best imaging company in the Mobile Entertainment Awards 2008.
